Cathy Travis, author of The Constitution Translated for Kids, will be our Guest Speaker on Friday morning, September 19th at this year's Expo event. A resident of Washington, DC, she is currently retired as Communications Director for Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz (Texas).
While many U.S. citizens cannot imagine reading the Constitution in its entirety, Cathy Travis has not only read it, but in her book, The Constitution Translated for Kids, she has actually translated the preamble, each article and amendment into modern-day terminology that an average fifth grader can understand:
"Show up, be engaged … be the “We the People” our founders envisioned."
Lisa Manning & Friends will then entertain us with her full length puppet pals from different eras of American History. They'll help us jump start Friday morning with her "Spirit" theme show! We'll be inspired with stories about America's astonishing achievements since her fight for independence, and entertain us with fun and games that will include singing, old-fashioned potato sack races, traditional hoops and sticks, and dressing the audience as famous figures from American history; such as Ben Franklin and Amelia Earhart! Your students will leave the rally all worked up and enthused for how they can make a difference in our great country's future!
After taking the trip of a lifetime, when it's time to say "Bon Voyage!", Lisa Manning & Friends will end our Expo event with her life sized puppet pals Chicita Banana, Captain Gus, and the Rocker! We'll all get a glimpse of cruise ship life and a taste of the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii by participating in this finale show filled with delightfully uplifting calypso music! Kids will don sombreros and shake maracas, try their luck at the limbo, wear grass skirts and leis for the hula, and march, with flags, to "God Bless America"! There will be no better time to announce the winners of our various drawings and wish you all well on your homeschooling journeys this year.
