Friday 1:30pm - Cotillion Room: 90 minute activity (counted as two workshops)

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) will conduct a hands-on model rocketry workshop where students will be given instruction on designing, building and launching non-solid fuel model rockets. We will not launch rockets at the Expo.  A presentation will also be given by a CAP pilot on opportunities to fly in CAP aircraft, both propeller driven and gliders, and how to earn a pilots license while participating in the CAP Cadet Program.

Saturday 2:30pm - Colonial Room: 30 minute activity for the Teen-venture restricted to ages 13 and up/limited to 60 students

Find out about a unique creative problem solving program that gives kids (k-12) a chance to brainstorm, design, and present original solutions to an open ended challenge.  This workshop will give kids a chance to learn about the program, learn some brainstorming techniques and experience some hands on challenges that is guaranteed to make you think…while having FUN.   Remember- there are NO WRONG answers here- only a chance to work in a group and be as creative as you can.  Teams of kids might be asked to build a structure to hold weight made out of only marshmallows and toothpicks OR design a way to keep a catapulted egg from breaking!   Start thinking and have FUN.

Digital Brix will introduce a web-based technology gamebrix.com which allows anyone to collaborate, build, share, and play games online. Gamebrix.com provides online tools for creating industry standard Flash Graphic, Animations and Casual games. No software downloads, no installations and programing knowledge is required. Use this new medium which is easy to use, encourage students in middle and high school to transition from passive consumers of Video games to creative game builders. In the process of building cool casual educational games, students will understand the need to pursue, art, math, business and computer science and the significance of college education.

Professional Mime Laurie Anslono will introduce students to the fascinating and fun world of creative movement - MIME! Students will learn basic techniques, e.g., hand gestures (have you ever felt "boxed in"?) And walking (the famous "moon walk"!) Before leaving students will be treated to a brief performance by the New Hope Mime Troupe.

Take a trip through Venice as students explore the world of William Shakespeare's revenge tragedy Othello. Students will perform scenes from the play, re-interpret the text into a modern vocabulary, and demonstrate how relevant the writings of Shakespeare are in today's society.

Imagine exploring your basement and finding a chest full of historical treasures!  That's just what happened to Mr. Brooks! Come and see what Mr. Brooks found that inspired him to write about the Spanish American War in his book "Patriot Sacrifice." You will see a presentation of his artifacts and participate in a discussion about how the Spanish American War elevated the United States to a world power.

Trainees who want to be Astronauts must learn to think like astronauts and our Space Academy Programs are designed to do just that! Attend this presentation to learn about the three fields of specialized week-long study programs to choose from: AVIATION, SPACE, and ROBOTICS tracks. Space Academy is an increased intensity program of astronaut and mission training and academics. Simulated missions to a space station and crew rotation highlight a week long program.

Do you want to better understand the political process? Then come and experience TeenPact Mock Legislature. Through the fast paced, fun filled session, you will learn how to use Robert's Rules of Order. You will be able to debate bills and decide whether to pass them or to vote them down. This workshop will give you a taste for how wills are debated in the Massachusetts Legislature. Please come prepared to learn and to have fun!
