We will be in need of several adult volunteers to help the Expo run smoothly. Volunteers are representatives of the Family Resource Center. Individuals need to be friendly but firm, very organized, not easily overwhelmed, able to handle difficult and sometimes confusing situations with patience and grace. Volunteers are expected to be extremely friendly and helpful to all students, parent educators, Expo attendees, exhibitors, vendors and FRC staff. Volunteers must be able to focus and concentrate on their volunteer duties at all times during their shift and should not plan on being able to supervise their own children's Expo activities while volunteering.
Volunteers will be assigned to monitor classrooms for either all day on Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm or all on Saturday from 8:00am - 3:00pm and will be responsible for the following:
- Make sure each workshop educator is notified 15 minutes prior to his/her workshop time.
- Assist workshop educator with set-up of classroom materials.
- Check-in each student (only the students registered for each workshop).
- Monitor the classroom during the educator's workshop to be sure all students and adults are observing the expected Rules of Conduct.
- Sometimes a room monitor may have to remind a student or parent to observe the Rules of Conduct.
- Keep the educator on a schedule so that workshops begin promptly and end promptly.
- Be sure all students and parents exit classroom no later than 10 minutes before the hour so the next educator has time to set-up.
- Help Educator clean up and make sure room is ready for next educator.
- Monitors will be provided a list of all the workshops happening for the day in their room during their volunteer shift. They will be expected to be prepared for their volunteer shift by knowing which educators will be presenting, where those educators can be found 15 minutes prior to their workshop, and what the educator will be presenting in the workshop.
- Monitors will also be provided a list of each workshop's registered participants. Monitors are expected to check off every participant so that we know who attended each workshop at the end of the event.
- Monitors will be expected to know the Rules of Conduct. and be able to graciously remind student and parent participants of the rules whenever necessary.
- Monitors will be given a supply of Courtesy Vouchers which students can turn in at the FRC booth for an extra key to the Expo Treasure Chest and the Spotlight on You Gift Pack drawing. Courtesy Vouchers are part of the Expo Courtesy Incentive Awards Program for students who are observed being particularly helpful, kind or polite during their time at the Expo.
